A while ago I put up a post in the Suggestions forum that was more or less the following:
- In addition to the "Album of the Day" and "World Album of the Day," we should have an "Expert Pick of the Day." There would be some algorithm that selects an album from the overall chart of one of the highest-ranking members and posts it for discussion on the forum every day. In addition, there would be a restriction on the album's rank on the overall chart (say, >500) to avoid too much overlap with the "Album of the Day."
There was a lot of support from the users (even the Poe seemed happy about the idea), but unfortunately, albummaster is swamped at the moment and probably won't be able to implement it anytime soon. However, there's nothing to prevent us from implementing something similar on the forum ourselves.
Now, I'm willing to take charge of this whole deal, but I want some input first. The casual version would just involve me posting albums to this thread based on my own judgement of what charts to pick from and what albums would be interesting to talk about. The more serious version (which I prefer) involves a nomination process where the forum users all have a say in which charts get included. Once the full list of charts is compiled, I'll cycle through them, selecting the expert's first album that is ranked 500 or lower on the overall and hasn't already appeared as an EPotD. Once I post an album, all we do is talk about it, just like with the AotD or WAotD.
Additional thoughts? Suggestions? Insults? Government health care plans?

When do we start suggesting albums? I still love this idea.
Individual users won't suggest albums, they'll suggest charts from which to pick albums. That won't happen in this thread, though, I just want to gauge interest first. If there's enough support, I'll post another thread to nominate charts.

I really like the idea of EPotD. And I think this structure makes a lot of sense, since it'll help avoid more obvious picks. What we be nominating decade and custom charts too? or just overall charts? _________________ http://jonnyleather.com

I was thinking any chart should be eligible... even year charts could be interesting if they were from one of the last few years.
