As most of you music lovers on here know, going out and buying music is a fantastic feeling ๐ In your body. not your wallet.
I've been going to record stores in Detroit the past few weeks and picking out some stuff, and I've found some pretty decent used records and CD's.
This thread is dedicated to digging the crates at record stores, thrift stores, goodwill, yard sales, whatever it might be ๐ And what some of your best finds are. Any story really, any regrets, etc..
I remember going to a small 'vintage' used stuff store in a small town and finding some really great used stuff, but they didn't take cash and all I had was debit at the time so I couldn't get any, and the next time I was there only 2 of the records I saw were left. Vinyl copies of Ziggy Stardust, Abbey Road, Bookends, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Meddle, Black Sabbath, Who's Next, Darklands and Spirit of Eden were all there. (I later picked up Bookends and Spirit of Eden though, which I was happy about anyway).
I also found a used copy of EMA's Past Life Martyr Saints in a lonely crate ๐

Every couple weeks i go to my local record store and just rifle through their $1 boxes. I typically leave with three or four + what ever i found at normal price. My biggest hits from the $1 boxes were Randy Newman - Sail Away and Elton John - Tumbleweed Connection, both of which are on my Overall chart.
A not great experience was when I overpaid for a copy of Magical Mystery Tour that wasn't in that great of shape. I still have it, because its one of those albums that i need, but i am always on the look out for a better copy.

I discovered Pete Shelley by going through the 99 cent vinyl section of a local record store. I was digging through rack after rack of stuff and I found a lot of cool stuff including a really beaten up "Kind Of Blues" some early Springsteen records, some Police records and then I saw this Pete Shelley album "Homosapien". I was like 16 and a big Buzzcocks fan and I didn't know what to expect and I was pretty excited to get it and hear it. It ended up being excellent, in great condition, really cool synth pop stuff. Just spent around an hour going through hundreds of Ukrainian canadian polka records. came out with about 15 albums in good shape for 20 bucks (after 10 minutes of arguing over price)
Mostly came out with polka and ukrainain folk records but i found some interesting oddities, bootlegged local Ukrainian Orthodox church sermons anyone?
as a rule i don't really like crate digging though. I usually dont have good luck with it (I never find any music I actually care about) _________________ Alt Right meme game on point

I was for a while mad at myself for not buying a used copy of Foetus' Nail once, but I eventually found another so it all worked out...
I've gotten old Genesis, Gentle Giant and Emerson lake and Palmer stuff, not necessarily rare I suppose, but they were cheap. And other things I'm probably forgetting.
If any of you live near Boston then I'd suggest you go to In Your Ear records in Cambridge for CDs. I didn't really see any old vinyl gems, but then again, I didn't really look. I'm more interested in CDs.
For CDs I looked into $4 CD boxes and found a lot of neat stuff. In the $1 section I found Superunknown and Throwing Copper. They also had Nevermind and Morning Glory but I already owned them.
Regardless of what they have, it's a really cool place because of it's location/atmosphere. It's kinda a basement but still neat.
