- Post subject: The 2013 BEA Film Awards- Discuss
|
Aight, to (slightly) make up for overstepping my grasp in the Best Year film tourney Ill cattle-call all the contemporary film buffs and do our own mini-awards, but for film. Might seem odd for a music-based website but Ill give it a go. Basically I have some categories listed but if anybody has other possibly intriguing ones mention so in this thread. Basically the rule is the film can't have had a commercial release anywhere in the world 2012 or earlier to be eligible (festival releases are fine). If a film has just opened up in your country in 2014 but was released commercially in 2013 elsewhere than its' more than eligible. Anyways, thoughts, issues, concerns, anybody think is actually plausible and not a waste of everybody's time, speak up!
Rules
- Film can't have been released commercially 2012 or earlier to be eligible
- Send in your votes on a weighted ballot: 5 points for #1 and 1 for #5
- You can nominate as much as five or as little as one, but in order to get five points for your #1 there has to be five nominees. If you put up four nominees there will be four points for the #1 and so and so, just to avoid the nomination of one single film across all spectrums getting the same rank as those putting up multiple films.
- Ill definitely give people time to catch up on some watching, but likely will have ballots due by early Feburary
- The Ballots will be your votes, not your nominations, but Ill unveil the shortlist of nominees before presenting the winners.
Categories
Best Film
Best Director
Best Actor (no distinction between supporting and lead, the top two vote getters will be the winners)
Best Actress (Ditto)
Best Screenplay
Best Cinematography/Photography
Best Documentary- Series or Film (Theaterical documentaries are also eligible for best Film)
Best Short (Hopefully those will provide links for potential favorites and post them here)
Best Visual Effects
Best Editing
Breakout Award
Best Music
Lifetime Achievement Award (anybody still living who's credited for any type of film work before 1990)
---
Most Underrated
Most Overrated
Biggest Letdown
Weirdest Fucking Movie
Sexiest Film
Best Popcorn Movie
Worst Film
Ballots Recieved:
Madadude
Lemme know of any other categories that would be enticing

yassssssssss
I don't know technical some BEAers get but best editing is pretty important. Also I really do think you should distinguish between supporting and lead but maybe that's just me :/.
Either way excited to see how this goes.

Is this the ballot? Should we PM you votes? Is this just to figure out what the ballot should be?

Allright Ill go through with this even if Im not seeing much interest. Here's the updated ballot, the main rule is to PM YOUR FIVE CHOICES, RANKED FROM BEST TO WORST (IT WILL BE WEIGHTED), and Ill tally up the votes and unveil the top five nominees and then the winners. I want to give people some time to catch some flicks they might've missed so I won't make the deadline until Feburary 10th or so, and will probably have a little wiggle-room on a personal case-by-case basis. You can PM your choices anytime from now on. Remember these are your votes, not just your nominations, so choose wisely
The Main rules to re-iterate are
- The chosen film can't have had a commercial release anywhere 2012 or earlier (festival releases are fine)
- Chose from one to five selections in each catgeory.
- Every first place vote will get five points, but in order to get four points for the seconds, three for the second and so on there needs to be five nominees. In a case where only two films are nominated the second choice gets one point, for three the second film gets two points and the third gets one, and so on.
- Ballots due Feburary 10th
- HAVE FUN DAHLINGS

No best music/score category? Considering we are here on a music based forum I would think that would be an essential category.
I guess just create a mixed category between music and score. That way movies like Inside Llewyn Davis with its folk soundtrack can compete on the same level as Upstream Color's magnificent score, and Spring Breakers can compete with both the soundtrack and Cliff Martinez's original score.

Sorta my reaction too ... came here all ready to vote for Jose Gonzalez's brilliance on Walter Mitty only to find there's no way to do so ... _________________

Hey just want to bump this and say it's definitely still on, I recieved my first ballot (thanks very much Madadude) and added the terribly oversighted Best Music category. Ill give people plenty of time to catch up on some flicks, likely will allow until late Feburary for ballots recieved and present the awards a day or two before the Oscar ceremony. Anyways cheers, categories and rules on the first post and all ready for submittal whenever you're ready dahlings.

Can short films be eligible in categories other than that which is explicitly stated as "best short"? (Because I know at the very least "Weirdest Fucking Movie" goes to David Garrett's short "The Wound")

Ill allow shorts for weridest, sexiest etc, those are just fun categories, otherwise the top tier and worst film and the like have to be feature length (over an hour).

I'd love to contribute, but really didn't see enough new films this year. Everything would be Upstream Color, Llewan Davis and Her
