Apologies for the down-time today. The site is funded organically from ad revenue, and sometimes the server resources that the site can afford to pay for, simply aren't enough to cope with the amount of traffic that the site now gets.

This month has seen the highest ever traffic volumes on BEA, and the site was starting to strain a bit around the edges. With this in mind, configuration changes were made to try and optimise performance on one of the web servers before the Christmas and new year period starts (this usually results in a huge surge of traffic as people seek out end of year lists), and I wanted to try and avoid some of last year's problems by being a bit proactive.

Unfortunately, the configuration changes blew up the web server (which then needed to be re-installed!) I'm going to leave things alone now, and stop tinkering, until we are through the next couple of months! 🫢
