A sprawl of piano claws and string quartet twitching, Solastalgia Suite feels less like music and more like a hostile audit of your patience. There is intelligence, yes, but it arrives wrapped in a fog of menace: each movement is a polite threat, every chord a whispered "you are insufficient". The album never comforts, never settles - it patrols. When it locks, the ensemble snaps like civil servants caught in a fire drill; when it falters, the pieces dangle like half-sentenced memos in a deserted office. You admire the intent, you respect the craft, and yet you leave feeling morally compromised for enjoying even a flicker of it.
Solidarity in tariff. Becomes staccato in extremis. Every note snaps like a ledger cracking over your head. Piano lines yank the strings as though auditing your soul, the quartet shudders under bureaucratic terror, and you sit there, clutching your tea, wondering if anyone survived the paperwork. Elegance and dread collide; beauty is administered with the politeness of a headmaster announcing your expulsion. Boycott is the only way forward - not merely from the tariffer, but from your own taste, which now feels culpable for consenting to the ordeal.
