Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 78.0/100, a mean average of 79.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.9.

Nothing will touch the first two and the classic EP, let’s be honest. But also let’s be honest and say I never expected them to get anywhere near that level ever again. On the last two, they were pretty great but treading water, not exceptional. This is way better than I could have hoped for. Absolutely exceptional and absolutely peerless, totally and obviously boc but also not a rehash. In a world of shitty mastering and vomit sound, they made something worth buying to immerse in the lovely soundstages. To feel something. Something only boc can deliver. Thank you boc. An old man is happy.
Boards of Canada in 2026. While it still has that vintage electronics feel that they're recognized by, it interestingly has this high-definition quality to it as well. This album has some of the best mastering and mixing from an electronic album I have ever heard. I've listened to it on streaming, 24bit lossless, and vinyl and each format has been incredible. Not to mention the songs themselves are so delectable to listen to. A lot of people point to Geogaddi as its most similar sounding companion, and I would agree, not only in the darker, ominous tones, but also the fact that this album is a *trip*. It's a total odyssey. It starts off somewhat innocently enough with Introit and Prophecy at 1420 MHz still does not quiet feel like the beginning of a journey, but suddently as your listening you realize you are worlds away. Look, I have no idea if this is their last album because supposedly their contract with Warp was for 5 studio albums. However, if it is it's definitely a hell of an ending. If not, then yay for more Boards of Canada. By the way this album ends, both avenues make sense.
Easily one of my favourite electronic/ambient techno albums of all time. Can tell a lot of time, effort and love has gone into this masterpiece. Available as a 24hz wave file direct from Bleep.com for the full experience
