Best Ever Soundtracks Pt 1 by

Of all the 1001 books, I've never seen one for soundtracks, thought it was time to remedy this hence pt1. Soundtracks always seem the much maligned ignored albums, many becoming deleted or only available on vinyl and hard to come by. They are never awarded Brits, Grammys just a token nod at the Oscars, usually the same select few. I fell in love with soundtracks at an early age, one of the first albums I owned at the age of 8 was a vinyl big war movie themes. I knew how to party back then. No matter the music your into everyone has heard knows instantly the refrain from numerous soundtracks. Be it Jaws, James Bond, Psycho or Saturday night fever you've all heard all of at least one. I could have filled a lot of my year charts with soundtrack albums, but decided to save them for this chart.
So the rules: I've tried to include only mostly original soundtracks, rather than compilations of incidental music. So for example Pulp Fiction and Train spotting though good compilations don't really fit the soundtrack criteria for me. I've chosen albums that stand alone, that could be listened to as you would any of your favourite albums. Jaws and psycho whilst iconic and fitting soundtracks would you really sit and listen to them without irony. As this is a work any progress I welcome any additions, suggestions or criticisms (constructive). I have tried as much as possible to include the original recordings/remasters, but as many unavailable or of poor sound quality. I chose some re recorded but as close to the original as possible. Again If anyone has a better suggestion for albums included feel free. Thanks for looking.

One of my favourite films matched with one of my favourite soundtrack/albums of all time. Would Ridley Scott's masterpiece be the same without Vangelis contribution? Back when synth music was considered remote & soulless, applying it to film exploring similar themes soulful.
An album to fall asleep to, drift off on a c beam past attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.
Top theme: Tales Of The Future [First added to this chart: 01/21/2015]
A film about cricket? It's a lot better than it sounds, honest. There is a wealth of Bollywood out there many with great soundtracks, this is the one to dip your toe in.
Perfect Sunny afternoon sat outside listening to this album, just needed a punkah.
Top theme: Chale Chalo, proper drum n' bass [First added to this chart: 01/21/2015]

So the three albums are obvious & not your favourites, what sort of chart is that. Sounds like one made by someone who doesn't know soundtracks.
I'm not throwing toys, just pointing out your omissions. I wouldn't listen to many of your choices either. And the three I've mentioned aren't necessarily my favourites, just obvious to anyone who knows something about soundtracks.

Open to constructive critics suggestions, no need to throw toys out just because doesn't include your favourites. Would rather chart be rated for what's in it than for what's not. No Shaft can you seriously compare to Curtis Mayfields Pusherman or James Browns The Boss, its become almost a parody. Suspira Goblins soundtrack may enhance the film but listened to on its own doesn't bear repeated listening. The Third Man though Harry Lime Theme iconic can you really sit through an album of zither music that's slightly repetitive. Stand by every choice, not happy make your own.
No "Shaft", "Suspiria" or "The Third Man" in the top 20 you must be joking.

Very interesting chart.
I sure don´t know all of the movies or soundtracks and I don´t agree with al of your choices, but the Chart Looks cool and a bit besides the Mainstream.
I like that.
Thanks for introducing me to the brilliant Irmin Schmidt album Kamasutra.
I didn´know that it existed right now.
Great concept for a list.... Reminds me that I need to find a way to see/hear "Lagaan". My one gripe would be that it would've been swell to see something scored by either Ennio Morricone, Goblin, or John Carpenter at the top of the list.
Some great picks here! Planete Sauvage, Run Lola Run, La Ragazza Fuoristrada are all excellent. And thanks for introducing me to Satin Whale.
