really like your #1, one of my fav albums. . "man out of time" is amazing , brings back so many memories, early 80s, when I had given up on popular music....never happy with my chart, that was on my chart years ago, but then I thought, well I should put my other fav Elvis album on it.
A very engaging chart indeed. I totally agree with your comment, that your album choices & tastes are conditioned by your "exposure based on location in history". I love it that you have Poi Dog Pondering 'Volo Volo' in your top 100. I think only you and I have rated the album in a chart. I discovered the album only because I was following the bands/artist/albums that have been produced by Jerry Harrison. Glad I did, since I am really getting into the PDP vibe. Anyway, greetings from Australia!
This is my chart. Admittedly, I think it is ridiculous to try to name the 100 best ever albums because that would presume I had listened to more than a fraction of the albums ever made. I have listened to a lot of albums, but I recognize that what I have heard has been subject to my tastes and to my exposure based on my location in history. The way I think of this chart is that it is my 100 favorite albums to listen to on a consistent basis and not just today. Thus, I am not making a claim about what albums have been the most culturally important or historically influential, etc.
Very much a “pop” type of chart – although “pop” as defined before synthesised pop became the dominant chart music in the Reagan Era. My reading in the 2000s has substantially turned me against that type of music, and although I try to be careful not to attack large differences in taste, I can detect a bit of both stereotyping and lack of knowledge here.
I really like your charts. A nod to some big greats but many more individual choices. I dont know all your stuff but i must get round to Elvis Costello as i liked his singles. John Cougar i havent heard that album for ages so must give it a listen. Big up your love for the 80s.
Might score higher when i give some more of a listen to your chart and you start to add comments
