In a scape of meditative music, both English speaking and foreign speaking (particularly Japanese), Rie Mitsutake have perhaps crafted the most delightfully meditative album I have heard so far. The songwriting is so great because it makes sure to never bore, while never being too melodious to shy away from the quiet sphere. It borders between the perfect goodnight song for children, swansongs, ancient chant and spiritual therapy. We have heard this music before but not to the same effect as this. Maybe longer comment coming. [First added to this chart: 09/21/2026]

Wow this is hypnotic to the bone, but in the best way. Almost in a new way, that I never thought I would get behind. [First added to this chart: 08/25/2026]

Look at the cover art. Look at the genres. Look at the song lengths. You know what you're getting into, and you're gonna love it. Every moment is fantastic, every instrument is nearly blossoming. I am gonna write a longer description, detailing more of every song, but this is definitely the organic and warm album of the year, if not the decade, gracefully composed and performed by a wise old man whose last name could rhyme with Hallelujah. The coolest EAI album I have ever heard, probably. A soundscape that you swear you've heard before but don't know if it's from another record or something you thought of yourself. Flooding-gates-music, but you don't know if you step into the unknown, or walking backwards, or got lost in the process. Superb stuff. [First added to this chart: 09/29/2026]

The title track is a masterclass in lonely free folk, like climbing a tall tree in a forest you don't know how to get out of. Infinity might be the best classical piano waltz of the year, and Sparkles bridges what the title track did with the ambition of the rest of the tunes: a study-in-sound ECM experiment that sounds as minimalistic as it is away from traditional jazz and heading towards an unknown destination. If anything, this is almost post-americana. I have tiptoed around the thought of listening to highly regarded Free Improvisation releases but this could seal the deal of making me do it. It would be harder to find a record from this year that tastefully follows in the footsteps of Leonard Cohen's invention of tender atmosphere, Eels' fatal depression, Innocence Mission's childlike philosophy and Lisa Germano's vulnerability - whilst not resorting to those dead horses. Antichamber is ironic of a title, because the chamber music elements in the acoustics and lo-fi production is expansive. [First added to this chart: 09/12/2026]

Such a delicate yet subtly melancholic atmosphere. Majority of tracks here scratch the itch for me. Love some of the force-of-nature noises coming in, whilst keeping a haunted and ghostly mannerism. Definitely a step up from the solid Quiet The Room. [First added to this chart: 09/11/2026]
