Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.8/100, a mean average of 70.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 19.0.

I came here after Pitchfork named this the AOTY despite not even having enough presence to even be on spotify and only 1.5k subscribers on their youtube account. I wondered what was the reason something this obscure was AOTY and not something like Bad Bunny or Rosalia, if they were going to try to go global.
It's.... very interesting. I'm not at all familiar with the genres it takes influence from (bolivian / peruvian / south american), but it's a wild set of experimental trance that is all centered around one blasting disjoint drum beat. Then the different distorted layers come and go. It's definitely a lot of very wild and diverse soundscapes that surround the repetitive drum beat.
But unlike something that is trying to be a "modernized genre of a specific niche ethnic music tradition" like Amaarae there are no verses or choruses, and it's not even clear where one song starts and the next ends, it's just complete wild chaos. Occasionally it will ascend to a stratosphere that is pretty captivating, other times it's disjoint and jarring but never boring.
It's not quite album of the year to me, I can appreciate purely instrumental music but ultimately I do like some amount of melody and song structure. But I gave it several listens and will probably revisit in the future just because of how unique and interesting it is.
