I was lucky enough to live through 2001, and by lucky, I mean I was able to witness this song singlehandledly rule the entire year. Can't Get You Out Of My Head is one of those impossibly original moments in music history where it almost seems inconceivale to think that someone straight up thought of that world-changing chorus. Kylie's vocals sound like she knew she was about to demolish the pop world and reinvent everything we expected from floor-filling #1s.
The cold, robotic romance of Blue Monday, the pulsing instrumentation of disco and the shiny plastic-on-metal sheen of the early 2000s; it at once pays homage to everything that came before and sets a benchmark that only a handful of songs have come close to since. Don't even start me on the video or we'll be here for days.
As soon as those strings come in to close out the third act, f*ck me...it's achieved legendary status and any contemporaries may as well admit defeat.
