I know what a guitar is. I just don't understand why they did it. It seemed a little pointless for the song.

JMan...it's a guitar talk box. You'll also hear it used by Peter Frampton, Joe Walsh and Marc Ford, among others.
This is Bon Jovi's best song. The only thing I don't understand is the backing vocals that sound like cheesy movie gorillas making a pop album.
