A kind of companion piece to, Eleanor Rigby, she's leaving home, is another of Paul McCartney's wonderful classical based songs. It a dark number, based on a true story, about a girl who finally has to the courage to become independent, but completely lacks that same courage to tell her parents of her decision. The song evokes the kitchen sink dramas of British cinema in the early and mid-sixties, especially, a taste of honey, and, the family way, which incidentally, Paul McCartney would write the soundtrack for that same year. The song is given extra poignancy by the amazing vocal performances. McCartney is obviously great, but it's John Lennon's superb backing vocals, expressing the bewilderment of the girl's distraught parents, which lifts it to a higher emotional plane. She's leaving home, in my opinion, is easily up there with, a day in the life, as one of the strongest songs from an album full of them. A classic track. (Edited)
