Marr allegedly wrote 'Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now' and 'Girl Afraid' in the same sitting, the night he bought his iconic red Gibson Es-335. The two are companion pieces.
Heaven Knows wound up being the better song, but 'Girl Afraid' is a great tune as well and contains some fantastic guitar work. It may very well be the hardest Smiths track to accurately play on the guitar. (Edited)
