Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some tracks can have several thousand ratings)
This track is rated in the top 2% of all tracks on BestEverAlbums.com. This track has a Bayesian average rating of 85.1/100, a mean average of 85.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 85.6/100. The standard deviation for this track is 12.3.

Profound lyrics and that piano is superb.
I always forget how excellent this song is. As Rael faces his fear of death for the first time, the instrumental could not be much better. Tony Banks' main piano riff that introduces and drives the song is just sublime, and Hackett even gets some time to shine his guitar chops in the latter half. But for as good as it is, like I said to start this review, I always forget how excellent it is, so it's not as memorable as something like In the Cage, or The Carpet Crawlers, or the title track, or even Counting Out Time. Maybe that's just a me problem?
Contender for my all-time favorite song out of 15,000+ songs.
It's the combination of the piano leading in and continuing through, chord progression, melody and accompaniment, notation (perfect rhythmic spacing), pace. Then midway, hit with the amazing solo, followed up with some beautiful organ.
Really listen to the music here, the background music, let the vocals be another instrument. Hear how everything comes together so wonderfully.
It's steadily grown on me over the years. Probably in the top 3 currently.
Cool song. i have a chunk of this song memorized as i find it full of interesting analogies for life, peter singing "anyway, they say she comes on a pale horse, but i'm sure i hear a train" and "does earth plug a hole a heaven or heaven plug a hole in earth? / how wonderful to be so profound when everything you are is dying underground". Love the piano -- fits the song beautifully.
