While this song doesn’t always present itself to me when I’m thinking of my very favorite Stevie Wonder songs, it’s a timeless, blistering 70’s funk jam. Close to as suggestive as Stevie’s lyrics get, you feel his burning swagger dancing over top of Ray Charles-esq piano lines, Bootsy Collins-esq synth bass lines (a true highlight here), and subtle but important and infectious studio banter.
“Can I play!??!” Yes, the fuck, you can, Stevie.
