Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

One of my favorite guitar songs of all time. Peter Buck has cited Hitchcock and Rew's guitar work for The Soft Boys as one of his chief influences in establishing his own style. Do tell! It's quite obvious. Robyn and Kimberley are playing interlocking guitar parts, both with arpeggios, but with subtly different patterns and shapes (you can easily differentiate them because one is on the left channel and the other on the right). The result is gorgeous, and of course the song is catchy and kinetic as hell, with hook after hook after hook, with of course, the one on "With her carapace shell and her black laced thighs" (as it appears the first time) being the best. And just so much energy. Beats out the almost-as-catchy-and-great "Tonight" as the best track on Underwater Moonlight for me. (Edited)
