Their best song, along with Neighbourhood #1. Neighbourhood is probably better in most objective ways; it has better lyrics, a more interesting structure, and is more ambitious overall. Rebellion, on the other hand, is relatively simple in both structure and lyrics, but, partly because of this, manages to be as close to pop perfection as I've ever heard. It's not something which can easily be explained, obviously the song is very well made, and I wouldn't be able to identify any weaknesses, but above and beyond all that this song manages to be flawless.
The one moment which elevates the song to these heights is, in my mind, key change in the last refrain. I will never understand how something so simple can be so transcendental.
That bass line, those lyrics...
.....hoooooooo every time you close your eyes hoooooooo....
It's that one chord change around "everytime you close your eyes" that gives this thing a different emotion torwards the end and makes it really kick ass.
Their very, very best. One of my favourite songs by anyone.
Sometimes I feel like this is the best Music piece ever written.
The violin outro melody remains one of the best melodies in history of popular music, or at least one of the most purposeful, if you get what I mean.
The key change has no comparison either.
One of my favourite Arcade Fire songs along with No Cars Go. I can't describe what I feel with this, it is a mix of feelings like freedom, happiness, sadness, when the piano gets in, then Win sings... It's something unique, every time I start to hear that bass line... It's one of the best feelings ever! It's so beautiful, yet sad. One of the best songs ever written and one of my favourites songs of all time. This is one of the reasons why Arcade Fire are so awesome and one of my favourite bands ever. It's incredible!
One of the best off the album
