just in case you've realized, last posts come from my girlfriend using my excel file to give her votes... and watching them i realized i've forgotten 3 votes: janis joplin piece of my heart, the jam that's entertainment and cat stevens the first cut is the deepest.
And now i can say i feel like i'm done!! probably i've forgotten many songs, but i think i've said enough names, too.
i've been watching the list of 100 top-rated bands, and i can say it almost didn´t change. With some little variations, bands from 1 to 20 are the same, bands from 21 to 50 too and from 51 to 100 as well. Hence, i'm going to use TODAY'S "top-rated bands" list to filter all names given -must be around 800 so far- in order to get a bracket-easy list, and trying to give preference to bands on that list (but with a large list of band out of it too, dont worry rfnaples ;.D )
Anyway, while i'm trying to think a way we can arrange votes so we end up with a bracket-easy number of songs representative of what you`ve proposed, you can still give more names if you wish. Is there anyone else going to vote? The Tourist? Johnnyrocketfingers...?
We can settle a last date for votes at the end of this week, what do you think? After that date, i would propose the list and start voting.
Thanks to all that helped making this list and hope you enjoy the tournament. Regards.

Hopefully we will have more voters than the Best Albums of the 1960's Tournament! It had a range of only 4 to 14 votes per pairing. It was never clear to me when one round or pairing was supposed to end.
Not only will the number of voters and the included songs be important but so will be the pairings. Should we pair or cluster them by style, release year or decade, commercial success, band-rank, alpha order, randomly, etc? Is it sudden death or two strikes and you’re out, etc? _________________ Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by RFNAPLES

Well, about how many people are going to participate, i hope it's going to be more than rfnaples, maxxy, nowhereman and me, which are the ones that proposed most of the songs here!! With 14 votes per pairing i would be more than happy, it seems that in other tournaments we vote the "usual" people you can find quite oftenly at the forums. Anyway, i would like to invite to anyone who read this to vote for our fav song of all times, please!!!
Since number of votes are going to variate, we can fix a standard period of time to consider a pairing open, like 2 or 3 days, for example. Finally, i was thinking about making it "sudden death", but we can make it "two strikes and out", in which case we don't need to make it "bracket easy". It would be helpful, what do you think?
(hope i find more answers than rfnaples... )

I prefer the double-elimination format which has some advantages over the single-elimination format, most notably the fact that third and fourth places can be determined without the use of a consolation or "classification" match involving two songs that have already been eliminated from winning the championship. Additionally, in a double-elimination format better songs are likely to progress further in the tournament. Suppose in a single-elimination tournament the best song goes against the second best song in the first round - the second best song will be eliminated right away, having only had one chance. Then, a more mediocre song with a better seeding could potentially win several matches, go against the best song in the finals, and come away with second place. (Usually, good seeding would help avoid this, but it is an issue nonetheless.) A double-elimination tournament would allow the second best song to keep winning (in the loser's bracket) and eventually work its way back up to its rightful position of second place.
As for the number of days pairings should remain open, I would allow a minimum of 3 to 5 days. This would allow for a discovery period and limited internet access. While we want the contest to end in a timely fashion, we also want voters for representative results. _________________ Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by RFNAPLES

OK People, we're done. Seems nobody else has any songs to propose, so NO MORE SONGS ALLOWED.
After long consideration... trying to filter and match songs in some way we can say the list is both "manageable" but "representative", and trying to make a contest that gives an "credible" result (anyway, it will be as much as credible as more of us participate...), this is how i propose to make it:
I.- 314 songs are classified straight on to the BEST EVER SONG CONTEST. 242 come from Top100 bands, 72 come from the rest. I have already selected the names, based on votes (all of them received at list 2 votes from 2 different people)
II.- We'll get another 59 songs for the contest, through a previous round by pairing 118 songs and selecting them by "sudden death". Winners will be added to the 314 songs' list. All this songs come from Top100 bands, and this round is used so we can select songs from bands on the Top100 when songs were voted just once.
III.- Finally, we'll get another 67 songs for the final contest, by a DOUBLE round also by "sudden death". Here i paired 268 songs not considered on steps I.- or II.-, and most of them -not all- come from bands out of Top100. Winners after the 2 rounds will be added to the DEFINITIVE LIST.
DEFINITIVE LIST will be composed, hence, by 314+59+67 = 440 songs. And then, we'll start the tournament, as RFNAPLES proposed, by DOUBLE ELIMINATION or "two strikes and out" process.
I didn't classified songs by decade, style, etc., since it would be a mess and also would (probably) lead to argument. What i proposed instead was to separate 440 songs on DEFINITIVE LIST on 4 different groups of 110 songs each, topped by songs voted the most so far. Just for your information, these will be the songs on top on the 4 groups:
GROUP A: HEROIN, ANARCHY IN THE UK, MARQUEE MOON, SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT, HIGHER THAN THE SUN, SITTIN' ON THE DOCK OF THE BAY, STOP! IN THE NAME OF LOVE
GROUP B: THUNDER ROAD, BABA O'RILEY, NO WOMAN NO CRY, SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL, I SAY A LITTLE PRAYER, MOVIN ON UP
SUSPICIOUS MINDS
GROUP C: ALONE AGAIN OR, BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY, PARANOID ANDROID, WONT GET FOOLED AGAIN, I'LL COME RUNNING TO TIE YOUR SHOES, SOLSBURY HILL, THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT
GROUP D: RESPECT, FAKE PLASTIC TREES, PSYCHO KILLER, ALISON, LAYLA, STAND BY ME, WATERLOO SUNSET
When we know the songs selected on previous rounds II.- and III.-, we'll start the "Double-elimination" Tournament amongst songs on each group and, when the number of surviving songs is reduced after several rounds, the groups will be merged and we'll continue the "double-elimination" contest amongst all songs until we get the winner.
--------
Just two more considerations. As you may see, I tried to include as many songs as possible on the tournament, so just a few (must be just around 20 songs) won't have the chance to participate, but ALL OF THEM are songs voted just once from bands that have at list 2 songs on list I.- (songs classified directly). This way i think everyone should feel represented.
Finally, as you can imagine, trying to process all this information is quite a mess, so if you find any mistakes, my appologies. i tried to do my best!!
