If I may, John Carter isn't really a flop anymore. It surpassed it's $250,000,000 budget by $30,000,000 dolars.

And honestly, I'm surprised some of these movies are flops. Especially The Iron Giant which was great.

That's just the production budget. The marketing expenses were another $200 million at least, meaning it's lost a minimum of $170 million.

My understanding is that The Iron Giant (much like the character) was very misunderstood in its time. It's since been recognized as a masterpiece (it was directed by Brad Bird, how could it not be?).
