Whoa, people connect to music from their youth? People get some of their taste from their parents? DAMN I could have never figured those things out on my own. Thanks to this article, I am now informed, it even had vague references to a study, studies are smart! OH and someone with a phd says something vague about inherent quality in music from the 60's....he must be right.

and wait! the author of the article out of nothing more than the kindness in their own hearts linked me to information about various apps tailored just to suit my classic rock loving self (even giving their prices for nothing more than myyyy convenience)! How generous of them. Clearly this is a very deep article and in no way a thinly veiled excuse to advertise said apps....

I agree. this is stupid.

better research would also reveal that part of the reason classic rock is selling so well right now is that a rather significant demographic no longer buys music, but the middle aged still do because the internet frightens and confuses them.

The research wasn't designed to explain record sales, that's just a journalist awkwardly interpreting scientific results.

I might be in the minority if what you're suggesting is true, but I still buy all my music, and a great deal of it is classic rock. Oh, and I'm not middle aged. Again, I could be in the minority.

Spotify is certainly skewed towards young folks:

This doesn't mean those people are necessarily buying less, but they probably are. ๐Ÿ˜œ

It goes both ways for me. Spotify decreases the need to buy, but increases the amount of music I want to have. It probably doesn't balance perfectly, though.

Yeah, it was probably being used for promotional purposes in the other link, but it's a real thing.

Yeah, like, the study itself seems interesting enough, to discuss/interpret or whatever...The first article just described it in the vaguest way possible and then told me to buy something. ๐Ÿคฃ

All's well, no reason to apologize, I could have been less viciously sarcastic anyways ๐Ÿคฃ

Oh. Is that why I buy so much music, because the internet frightens and confuses me?

Thanks. I had no idea.

Good Lord....

Well, i was half joking about the "frightens and confuses". but the facts show that since the beginning of the mp3 era, physical album sales have declined rapidly among certain age groups while remaining somewhat steady among older adults. certain demographics are going to be more heavily effected than others. the demographic that buys classic rock albums hasn't been hit as hard as others.

I don't think you're in the minority at all.

You are the minority.
