I've started rewatching Beck, and by rewatching I mean picking up where I left off but not remembering what happened prior so I'm just starting from the beginning. I forgot how much I love it. I'm surprised the entirety of BEA haven't sat down and watched it at least once.

I love Beck; despite the whole Rage Against the Machine-ish music in it.

Aight, probably won't be able to torrent anything for the next ten days and I refuse to stream (and I don't know if I'll have any free time for anime anyways) so I'll give a roundup of first episodes I've seen from summer because why not.

Starting with things I didn't watch or don't care about: Bakamatsu Rock (Typically avoid Deen these days because they're shit), all second/third season shows (might try and catch up with Space Dandy), Locodol (idol shit), Argevollen (looks awful), Sailor Moon: Crystal (Would have tried it but I actually have never watched the original series and this seems more like it's for fans. Should probably see the original first just for historical purposes) Puripara (no interest), Shonen Hollywood (Fujoshi stuff), Dramatical Murder (BL shit)

Already dropped: Tokyo Ghoul (Waaaay too edgy), Rail Wars (was hoping this was going to be another cute-girls-doing-strange-things cutely like GuP but it turned out to be pandering fanservice harem shit).

Might be fun: Glasslip (looks like the de-facto drama show of the season, will have to see if it develops well but the character designs are nice), Akame Ga Kill (This somehow managed to be edgy and yet not take itself too seriously. Feel like it'll be worth it for the ride alone, and it may be decent. Also the main girl looks like Shino from SYD).

Will watch for sure: Sabagebu (I really enjoyed C3-Bu despite it having so many flaws and this seems like it'll be kind of like the first half of C3-Bu but way more silly, which seems nice. Main girl is cool, all the others seem fun, it's actually pretty funny, good stuff. Cute girls with guns), Aldnoah.Zero (Urobochi created so I'm fairly confident it'll be entertaining at least. Not sure about the Rei-esque main character so far, but I'll give him time. Good soundtrack too, nice animation, good worldbuilding, figures to be the clusterfuck mech show of the season).

AOTS candidate tier:

Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-Kun: Dogakobo can do no wrong. Ever since Yuruyuri they've pretty much been the best comedy/cute girls based SoL studio one could ever want. Obviously it's not anime original, but they always seem to get the most fitting source material for them that manages to be legitimately funny and endearing. Nozaki-kun is proving to be the same so far. Great main girl, main guy is a good comic foil, good animation, it's nice. Anyways, this will be one of the shows I'm looking forward to every week for sure.

Barakamon: Really good SoLs this season, makes me happy. Really like the MC and entire vibe of the show, seems like it'll be a nice in-between of humor and healing, almost like another Non Non Biyori. It's hard to really go in depth about why SoLs are either good or bad, but this one really captures what it's going for and the first episode left a great impression. Also best loli since Mashiro.

This is gonna be some Yotsuba shit, I can tell.

Anyways, that's everything so far. Plan on giving a few more things a try, particularly interested in that IG show coming out tomorrow because they're a good studio and Zankyou No Terror, which will either be a trainwreck or fantastic. Also Hanamonogatari later in the season is exciting. Pretty solid looking season overall, not as many stand-outs as spring but not as many awful garbage shows as well.

In non-summer related news I finished Mononoke yesterday and that was great. Classic art as fuck anime stuff. Will probably finally get around to Kaiji or Natsume Yuujinchou next, whichever mood I'm feeling.

I've experienced only twice: one was a film, 'Grave of the Fireflies'. The other was a series, "Steins;Gate".

I should probably branch out a little...

The height of hubris.

I bought stuff in Akihabara! Probably not as much stuff as I should have, in fact definitely not. I didn't have much time and was with non weeb people so I didn't want to spend too much, but I got some cool stuff regardless. Some of them are figmas but they're pretty decent for figmas. Anyways, shit was super fun, I'll post some pictures when I get back.

I haven't had much time at all to watch anime in any form but I got to talk to a lot of Japanese people so that's pretty much the same thing. About half way through the first season of Kaiji right now and it's great. My plan when I get back is to do nothing and smoke weed for the first couple days so I should be watching plenty in that time period. Love you all.

I think I like c3 a lot more from last year than this one. It's fun though.

Featured Anime:

Infinite Ryvius
Genres: Drama, Thriller, Science Fiction
Episodes: 26
The year is AD 2225. Kouji Aiba and Aoi Housen are serving as astronauts in-training in Liebe Delta which is located on the edge of the Geduld Sea. When saboteurs with unknown intents suddenly strike during a routine dive procedure, the space station plummets into the Geduld, a plasma field that links all the planets like a nervous system and crushes any ship that strays too far into it. With all the adults onboard killed, the young astronauts will have to survive this long journey home in midst of the growing tension amongst each other. Meanwhile the organizers of the sabotage look on and prepare to attack once more.

A few years ago Infinite Ryvius was described to me as “Lord of the Flies” for anime which as you can imagine is something that drew in my curiosity. This one holds a good driving narrative but the tense characterization is what makes it resonant of one of the best anime of 1999. It’s shot well and is damn fluid, but that’s something you’d expect out of Goro Taniguchi who also directed another science fiction classic for the anime canon, Planetes. Anyway, I consider this one to be in my top 100 of all time so it's obvious that I consider this one pretty wonderful.

You'll have four weeks until I switch it up again.

I know you will call me a slowpoke or something like that but I watched Death Note over the weekend. It was pretty good par that fact that it becomes rushed after episode 25's death. The animation isn't that good though imo.

I haven't seen Death Note yet. I think I have it on my to-watch list on MAL. Should get around to it even though it's been talked to death.

Anyway, I finished Beck yesterday. Safe to say that it was beautiful towards the end. Now I have the motivation to learn how to play the songs 😜
