A friend of mine wanted me to watch bakemonogatari with him and so we have over the past week or so (about an episode or two per night) and it's decent. The weakest spot is the music and dialogue (music can be really out of place especially the "horror" music and dialogue doesn't progress all that well. Too many weird lines). The most entertaining portion/strongest part is probs the exchanges between the main character and that ghost girl. Not a fan of the animation either; the scenes range from oddly designed to progressing too fast.

Doesn't really seem like it's much your show then, considering the parts you're criticizing are the parts it's normally most praised for.

I've noticed. My friend claims the seasons after this one (the first one that is) are a bit funnier and more interesting. This one didn't do too much for me (I'm basically neutral on it), but the humor was pretty good when present. I'm wondering if my friend's claim is true.

Bake I've always considered to be the best season, but going by some of your issues you might end up liking the Second Season stuff more. Nise is probably the least cohesive of all series, but it's pretty entertaining, lots of fun character interactions and stuff. Second Season has a lot more story focus and isn't quite as fragmented as the rest of the series, and they tone down a bit on some of the abstraction in the animation and verbose dialogue, but quality wise I still think the stuff you're on is best in the series, so interpret that as you will.
I will be honest I'm not entirely sure what you said, but I'll take it as a compliment.
Also Shounen girl literally means young boy girl.
Really? I'm saying a lot of users have had avatars/sigs with anime girls. Who was it that made the "BEA Characters as Cute Anime Girls" list? Was that Bongritsu?
Beck Genres: Drama, Slice of Life
Episodes: 26
Tanaka Yukio, better known by his nickname Koyuki is a 14 year old who feels disconnected from life in general. Through the act of saving a mismatched dog, he meets guitarist Minami Ryuusuke, and becomes involved in Ryuusuke's new band BECK. Koyuki's life starts to change as the band struggles towards fame.
Up there with Nana as one of the best music-driven drama’s in the genre. Beck takes a little bit to get its gears going but when it does it shines really well in terms of narrative and characterization. I think a few of us have already seen it so we can actually discuss one of the featured anime choices for once (I’m not bitter, I swear) instead of just passing it over like we usually do. Anyway, I watched Beck on a whim a few years ago and it became a favorite on first watch and ironically enough I’ve only gone through it once. It’s pretty wonderful, engaging stuff and I think the “alternative” music they slap over the band centered in the story is actually fairly decent.
You'll have four weeks until I switch it up again.
