Also CubaZed, consider doing "Tame Impala/Pond + affiliates" eventually, I'm trying to compile a list and listen through them all now since they're my favorite band I think (for now).
I think he should focus on the more prominent and prolific artists first.Tom Waits haven't been done maybe Can or Brian Eno.
I was going to relisten to some more of the post 80s stuff before I made my ranking, but then I went to Texas for the weekend, so I'll just rank what I feel comfortable ranking
1.Daydream Nation
2.Sister
3.Evol
4.Bad Moon Rising
5.Murray Street
6.Confusion Is Sex
7.A Thousand Leaves
8.Washing Machine
9.Dirty
10.Goo
Although their 80s work is pretty much untouchable especially the triumvirate of Evol, Sister & Daydream Nation, I really dig all their albums - even Experimental Jet Set No Star ( I’ve got mad love for Bull in the Heather & Skink) and NYC Ghosts and Stories.

What about their S/T debut,The Whitey album and The Eternal?
What about their S/T debut,The Whitey album and The Eternal?
The Whitey album was one of the first cds I ever bought so of course I love it. Sonic Youth were one of my favorite bands at the time (late 80s), but I loved Madonna too (especially her singles) so it was quite a treat. As Sonic Youth and Mike Watt (of the Minutemen) were at the height of their powers it's not surprising that even this goofy lark turned into something quite awesome. I'd probably rank it quite high, but I'd have to listen to it again - it's been a while.
I would put the s/t Sonic Youth EP on the exact same level as Confusion as Sex. Since I'd never heard the live tracks that were added onto the EP, I decided not to rank it. But the EP part itself is just as good as the tracks on Confusion is Sex and Bad Moon Rising. How are the live tracks? Are they worth a spin?
The Eternal still hasn't clicked with me quite yet. I like the first couple of tracks a lot, but then I thought it dropped off from there. But, I really need more spins with it.
Listening to the "live" tracks on the Sonic Youth album as I type this, and they sound surprisingly great. I thought it would be bootleg quality.
Diamond Sea
Schizophrenia
Expressway to Yr Skull
Teen Age Riot
