I'll conform and say I prefer Boxer, but I like the national so this album is still great.

This is an incredibly important album to me. When I was in high school, perhaps the middle of my junior year, I made it my mission to discover all of the great music I could. This album had been getting a lot of hype, but I really didn't know what to expect. I did not anticipate the thick atmosphere, or Matt Berninger's rumbling baritone. I did not expect to be smitten so easily. Yeah, I love the two albums preceding more. Still, this is an album I can jump into at any time, a feat that I find is quite rare. With the exception of "England," which I get that a lot of people love, there isn't a song that I don't just adore.

Track picks:
1. Terrible Love
4. Little Faith
7. Lemonworld
11. Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks

As I listen to How To Destroy Angels' album and read this thread, I feel like I want to listen to High Violet.

The album had an impact on me at the time of its release but not for any life situation, just musically. I had started to explore more music and The National was one band I just thought I might like after hearing 'Terrible Love.'

Recently Ravedeath, 1972 has overtaken High Violet as my favourite 2010s album but still; amazing.

The National do very little for me, although they appeal to a lot of people on such a base, human level that I feel a little envious whenever I listen to someone wax lyrical about them. Ho hum.
