*sigh* Another one of my absolute favorite albums of all time. After listening to this record again, I'm gonna put this in my top ten. It's always been on the outside, but I think it's time.

Disintegration is unlike anything else, even by The Cure. In many ways, it is largely a culmination of all of their experimentation and ambition. Each song is a wave that doesn't quite crash. They're all controlled, but are not formulaic or grounded in any real sense. The Cure is a group with whom I've grown up, and who have had a huge influence on my taste in music. Disintegration is an incredible break-up album that simply does no wrong. I've enjoyed it for many years, and will enjoy it for many more.

Track picks
2. Pictures of You
3. Closedown
6. Lullaby
10. Disintegration
11. Homesick

Since I found this site a couple of months ago I've bought about 20 albums that seem to get a lot of love off people, some I've never got round to listening to (like this), some I've never fancied and some I've never heard of. From all the ones I've bought, this is the one that I've really took to. What I love about this is that it isn't in a rush to get anywhere, there are no standout hits like you get on the early cure albums but as a whole you just get swept away with it. Everytime I listen to it I move it up my chart a little bit more.

In my opinion, Disintegration is the greatest album ever made. It's a masterpiece from start to finish.

Highlights
1. The Same Deep Water As You
2. Pictures of You
3. Fascination Street
4. Untitled
5. Prayers for Rain

This record has now the reputation of being The Cure's best (or so I have the impression). While it certainly is good, and was a welcome to return to their melancholy selves after a messy, sometimes very good, sometimes terribly poor, double LP, it certainly isn't their best IMO. I don't like "Fascination Street" as much as some (Harkan, allegedly) do, and "Last Dance" isn't quite up to the standards the album sets in other places. However, I don't want to belittle this record, as some wonderful songs can be found on it: "Plainsong" and "Untitled" are my favourite. "Lullaby" was a good single.

Seventeen Seconds is still my favourite Cure album by far, and I feel it's their only real masterpiece (in an uneven but solid discography, with very high highs) and I must admit, as respectful as I can be of everybody else's taste, that I wonder at how few people have the same opinion, as I can't help being totally fascinated by its beauties.

I agree with the first paragraph completely and utterly, and parts of the second paragraph (well, the part about them having "an uneven but solid discography, with very high highs" anyway). I didn't realise, until it was pointed out to me recently, that this was widely regarded as their "best album". Anyway, my favourite Cure album is The Head On The Door.

Yeah very good, but a little long. That's not my most thoughtful review ever, but I think it's pretty accurate.
