This album ended up giving me a headache. Pyramid Song and Knives Out are good tracks, but it didn't work with me overall. _________________

useless wrote: | Well, after all these comments (except Happymeal's) embracing the album's sound and stating how underrated it is, mine will sound somewhat mean... Sure, it is a great album, much more "difficult" than Kid A if you ask me but the reward for your devotion to "unlock" it is worth it. Moments that stand out are definitely I Might Be Wrong, You And Whose Army, Knives Out and, even though I know many will disagree with this, the Morning Bell reprise. It has some quite surprising moments (e.g. the trumpets during Life In A Glasshouse) and some of the best vocals Yorke has ever given. That said, it is inferior to Kid A due to its comparatively poor consistency, some tracks are true clunkers (Packt Like Sardines..., Pull/Pulk Revolving Doors) and towards the end it becomes less interesting. I admit that maybe I haven't quite grasped the album's sound (I've only listened to it three times) but I have given much less time to other Radiohead works which sounded amazing from the first time around. Again, it is a very good and solid piece of work, but if I had to compare it with the rest of their discography (minus Pablo Honey which I haven't listened yet) it is their weakest along The King Of Limbs (and Separator is better than anything in Amnesiac mind you). Hail To The Thief was a mind-blowingly good follow-up though (it should be ranked higher than Amnesiac btw imho), even if it didn't push their sound towards a totally new direction like In Rainbows did. |
Yes, Amnesiac is inferior to Kid A, and both versions of Morning Bell are great but:
1. You and Whose Army sucks and is probably the worst track on the album, and Separator is worse than You and Whose Army.
2. Packt Like Sardines is a contender for the best track.

Well, we agree to partially agree and disagree then.

OK (btw I just listened to You and Whose Army again and it doesn't suck but it's still not good anyway)

What are you guys talking about? This is definitely a "Kid B", but only meant as a great continuation. The two morning bells. The two jazz-influenced pieces: "The National Anthem" and "Life in a Glasshouse". The continuing electronic elements. Even Thom Yorke has described it as "another take on Kid A, a form of explanation." (quote found on Wikipedia). I think it's eerie songs like "Pyramid Song", "Dollars & Cents" and "Like Spinning Plates" that makes it my 3rd favourite Radiohead album. _________________ "The Beatles, the greatest band known to mankind." - Bismah Mughal

This is one of the whiny Radiohead albums. Still good though.
