Some 10 years ago, Yellow was possibly one of my favourite songs. Now, while I still like it a lot (despite its somewhat cheesy lyrics), I don't think it's in the top half of the songs here. There's Shiver, IMO a better love song, but that song fits in what seems to be a recurring theme throughout the album (what Jhereko also mentioned), of longing for someone (or something), and loneliness. And yet, despite a very melancholic nature to this album, it ends on an optimistic note.

Most important here though, for me at least, is the sound. A lot of people are fans of The Antlers while possibly hating Coldplay (maybe it's the "cool factor"), but a lot of what I love about them (especially their latest EP), is what I love and reminds me of the sound on Parachutes. Just this really laid back nature of it, chill echoey guitar lines, soft vocals...

BTW here's one of the bonus tracks, which you may or may not have heard of. It's great.

I absolutely love the antlers, not because of a cool factor or anything.
bu i will give coldplay a completely fair chance

Great songs, but some lyrics are weak ...

Best tracks: "Trouble", "Yellow", "Shiver", "Don't Panic", "Spies".

lords, that song is gorgeous. all their b-sides are fantastic.

i actually think the singles are the worst songs on this album - except perhaps 'shiver'. 'spies' and 'we never change' are probably my favourites.

I remember purchasing this on it's release along with Doves' début. Of the two albums, I think I preferred this at the time but, I have to say, I still enjoy listening to Lost Souls but I couldn't tell you the last time I listened to Parachutes.
