EDIT: Also, I'm betting the number 1 for 2013 is probably gonna be something I dislike (seems like pattern), but I'm hopeful it'll be something I love, I mean a lot of the big releases I've liked (well the more recent ones like National or Vampire Weekend, not Daft Punk though because meh) so the biggest one might be extremely good. |
thanks, Happymeal. I love shoegazing (like Catherine Wheel, MBV, Ride, Slowdive, etc.), but as you can tell by my list, I only really know / have heard the best-known bands. getting a little more exposure to shoegaze will be helpful. _________________

considering the members of this site worship Arcade Fire, I'd be inclined to say the album will be in the top five of this year. I just hope people rank it (and other 2013 albums) because they enjoy it and not just to follow a trend. _________________

In that case, there's certainly a few other ones that I'd recommend that weren't released this year that I've recently found appreciation for. More recently I've been exploring plenty of different genres just so that I can get a better feel for them. Shoegaze is on my list and I've been slowly listening to more and more in that genre, and it's pretty great.
The first album I'd recommend isn't exactly shoegaze, it's got a bigger influence from the metal side of things, but I think it can fit well under the genre of shoegaze. Weighing Souls With Sand by The Angelic process. Definitely check it out.
The next one that stood out a lot for me is Souvenirs d'un autre monde by Alcest. That's just straight up shoegaze, and it's a pretty nice listen.
Солнцеворот by Гражданская оборона (I know, different language and all, translated to english it's called Solstice by Civil Defence, not the one by Alice) is a shoegaze(ish) album, but it's definitely got influence from the genre of punk/post - punk (not quite sure because I've never been good with genres), and I enjoyed it quite a bit.
Those three are the ones I would recommend checking out the most (the descriptions I gave are from memory so don't be surprised if I'm off a bit, my memory isn't that great, and I've never been good with descriptions either).
