Because of how often Rainy Day Women has been on the radio over the years and how I don't particularly enjoy "Pledging My Time", I usually just queue this album to start at "Visions Of Johanna" - which is an amazing song lyrically and sonically and just draws me into the whole mood and sound of the album instantly.
"Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again" is another song that never gets old to me - clocks in at over 7 minutes yet has so much momentum to it that is feels like a 3 minute and change song. Great musicianship from the whole band on this cut.
"Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat" is so biting and relentless - love it - "like a mattress balances on a bottle of wine" - fabulous line.
"4th Time Around" is another song that is clever lyrically - the "gallantly handed her my very last piece of gum" only to later tell her to spit it out is one highlight.
Musically the album has a great sound to it. The piano and organ melodies and layering give several songs a depth and interest that was distinct from the music others were making at the time and keep the album intersting to listen to on many revisits.
This is an album I go back to frequently.
