Exactly. There's a damn BEA link tab just above this text box, why don't people use it? I've already expressed that I'm not particularly interested in reading what people are listening to if they don't talk about it a bit, but if they don't even write the name of the album, then why are they even posting here? Seriously, either make a real post or don't make any. It could be a very interesting thread, but it's mostly just people throwing around pictures of albums either everybody knows and don't give a single fuck about, or ones that no one has ever seen and will never listen to because there's not even a name.
It's pretty nice folk-soul, like Tracy Chapman but less depressing and more modern. Not great, but very pleasant. The first half in particular is very good, and the last few tracks are worth a few listens, too. The biggest problem is the third quarter of the album (or the first part of the second side, as you want), which is a bit boring and does not really grab the attention. She's really good when she sings anthemic choruses, like in tracks 1, 2 and 6 and somehow in tracks 3, 11 and 12.
I've been more and more interested in soul, funk, and more generally black music that isn't reggae or hip hop recently. The Dexys and Antony & The Johnsons, which I've been listening to over and over these days, really changed my mind about soul, which I originally wasn't interested in at all, to say the least. Yeah, I know, they're not exactly soul, but they draw important inspirations from this genre. I'll try to get Mayfield's first album (Superfly was amazing), and I've just added to my playlists albums by Herbie Hancock, Gil Scott-Heron and Sly & The Family Stone. I'll take any recommandations. I probably won't listen to them in the next few days or weeks, but I'll keep them and when I won't know what to listen to, they'll be here. Thanks in advance ๐
