this is probably not very urgent. and it doesn't bother me. but i've been noticing for a while. example: there are 29 great albums from the year 1955 according to this site. 27 of those are from the united states of america. which is a staggering 3%. and so on. seems like bea always takes it for granted that there are thousand albums. each year.

It is of my belief that this site is for the best ever albums and, so, those albums that are not would not be on here. There is no reason for an album being on this site if not one of the members thought it was good enough to do so.

1955 was also extremely early in the age of the LP. From my knowledge the first LP was introduced in 1949, but recording and releasing an LP was an extremely costly endeavor. Most artists were releasing 45s only during the early 1950s.

According to wikipedia, 1,615 albums were released in US in 1955. I would expect that about 95% have been out of print for decades and are completely unknown to the relatively young BEA contributors. Maybe my grandparents would have more substantial chart for those early years, but they're computer-impaired.

I think they're saying that there's an error in the way the percentages are being calculated. In the case of 1955, the site says the 27 US albums make up 3% of the total albums on the site in that year, implying there are ~1000 albums in total for 1955 (there are 29).

Erm, sorry, it just seemed like people were confused by your question. I'm not criticizing your English, I just thought different wording might help... 😜

Sorry, that looks like a bug, and it'll be fixed in the forthcoming site update. The percentage should of course be approx 93% (27 out of the 29 albums for that year).
