I assume your tastes are generally more sound and technically driven. In which case, Elvis Costello may appear quite uninspiring. On the surface, his songs are not unlike the simplistic pop rock of the late 50s/early 60s, with a bit more angst.
I don't think this is Costello's best. It's a bit hit and miss for me compared to something like Armed Forces, but I guess the appeal is in Costello's genuine energy. Following the pretentious prog and stadium rock of the 70s (some of which I love), Costello seemed to strip away all of that bullshit and just wrote songs for pure enjoyment, and that shines through.
And I think that's something that can be totally overlooked by listeners overly focused on technical achievement and originality. |
Thanks for the insight unfortunaly that's just how hear it uninspired,unintresting boring pop rock I probaly am overlooking it but whatevs just my personal taste maybe I'll try Armed Forces in the future
