'Tic Toc Tic' by The Zolas. Upbeat, piano-driven tunes (maybe a less wacky Ben Folds). Has stood up very well to the first few listens - the song below, which kind of got me into them, actually seems to be among the weaker tracks.
I got this when I was like 18 and I was in love with Kind of Blue. Well, I suppose I was just coming out of my first Miles Davis phase and so I listened to this once and then loaded it in my computer and sorta forgot about it.
Then since then I've heard here and there great praise for this album (here and RYM especially) and I still didn't get around to checking it out again.
Then this morning I just had this thought to go and pick up my CD copy of it and listen. I was not anticipating how gorgeous it would be. Every second of the 38 or so minutes is just absolutely gorgeous. Miles' trumpet in particular sounds so clear and emotional here.
And yeah, the opening and closing of "In A Silent Way/It's About That Time" are just about the most emotionally endearing and reassuring moments I've ever heard in any music. I mean, this stuff is just peaceful and tender and spiritual.
I am in love with this record. _________________ -Ryan
The second album by California singer/songwriter Gary Jules. Contains beautifully written and performed acoustic numbers, and also is home to the definitive version of the Tears For Fears classic "Mad World", made famous in the film Donnie Darko. This is a really sweet album, very nicely done in every way. _________________ I'm leaning on the threshold

It's taken me a long time to get this band, but I'm finally coming around to what their sound is about. This album has a high energy level that's infectious, and the songs just seem to fly around the room in a perfect kind of chaos. And since it's that kind of a day.... _________________ I'm leaning on the threshold
