Lol this is great. I never thought about describing an album as totally unacceptable. Laughing

In my opinion, this is the epitome of ugly songs mixed to sound "appealing". Horribly indulgent after the success of The Joshua Tree and made Bono think that he could do anything and his fans would eat up anything this had to offer. Much like Bono himself, this reeks of pretension. I can't even stand One, it's one of the most overplayed, insincere power ballads in the history of popular music. Can I just leave it at that? I don't to be involved in another rage fueled debate about this band.

Discussions ≠ Arguments.

I'm not convinced it is indulgent. U2 were a relatively small band until the commercial and critical success of The Joshua Tree which brought them to the spotlight. This album wasn't released after The Joshua Tree - Rattle & Hum was, and was widely panned by critics and fans. Achtung Baby isn't remotely indulgent because it wasn't created at the height of a career, but their low, and was an attempt to create a new sound to regain recognition - it was a risk. Saying Bono thought he could 'do anything and his fans would eat it up' is just wrong. That's what Rattle and Hum was, experimenting with Blues music, and the fans hated it.

Basically this but to call Rattle and Hum experimenting with blues is a rather generous way of putting it. It was certainly the sound of a U2 that thought it could do no wrong with Bono arrogantly trying to set himself a palce at the head of the table in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I don't recall this being as much of a problem for the fans as it was for the critics though, commercially it was extremely successful album. However, Achtung Baby was clearly a back to the drawing board moment but that was probably as much about them being bored with what they were doing as it was about seeking critical acclaim.

Honestly can't stand this for a minute. Im all for bands getting out of their comfort zone and taking big risks, but ironic dance-pop was the exact opposite of what U2 did well. I prefered the youthful bombast of their earlier records because they knew how to pull it off perfectly, but this just sounds dreadful and now terribly dated as well.

Boring album, with only 2 or 3 good songs. For me "war" it's the best album from U2.
