They problem with their singles is that a lot of them have multiple versions and neither compilations have the best version of them on a single release(Substance,Singles) .So you have to listen to the different versions and find out for yourself which one you prefer.

e.g. 7" version,12" version,re-recorded versions. The difference is quite big for most of the songs.

That made me laugh. Anyways, I don't feel Technique measures up to any of their other 80s output. In fact, I compare it more to Violator than to the rest of their output since they clearly tried to swing for the college radio fences with a dance floor focus. But where that intention & focus produced Depeche Mode's best album period in Violator, that same emphasis resulted in New Order's worst (but still quite good) effort at that time. As Mecca points out, it would seem like a highpoint in just a few years. Here's my ranking...

1. Power, Corruption, Lies
2. Movement (a worthy, almost miraculous (given the circumstances) follow-up to Closer that doesn't get enough love)
3. Low-Life
-------------------------------------------
4. Brotherhood
----------------------------------------
5. Technique

As someone who thinks the best music for dancing in the entire world is 80s New Wave, Substance of course rules my world. But for hanging out in my room, I'd much rather listen to their albums.
