As album listening goes, the Decembrists don't get any better than this, though I think of them as more of a songs band overall.

For sure my favourite Decemberists album, a great balance between solid singles and progressive cohesion that they're known for.

I think they can be one-trick-ponies at times, but here I think they've really mastered their own sound and direction.

Though I like Picaresque better, this album breaks my heart so hard. I also have to give it points for being one of the very first albums that got me started on discovering music in a big way. Kickass album, all the way.
