Don't get me wrong, Mastodon was great until they decided to go for contemporary appeal and switch from progressive metal (CTS) and sludge metal (Leviathan, Blood Mountain, etc) to mediocre stoner rock.

Certainly not my favourite Masotdon (I prefer Leviathan and Blood Mountain), but this album is still dope. This is their proggiest, most ambitious record, and for the most part it totally works ('The Czar' suite is my shit). My love for this, despite its overt technicality being the sort of thing that doesn't normally do a lot for me, probably stems from the fact that the Live at the Aragon DVD was my introduction to the band, and I was blown away (I was also stoned as fuck, so make of that what you will). But yeah, I fuck with Crack the Skye.
