are you the type of person who looks for happier albums to try and counteract the feeling or someone who finds empathy, camaraderie, etc in more somber albums?

This, that totally decides what kind of thing would be good here. There's also the people most helped by total catharsis and just huge loud music.

Honestly when I'm going through a rough period happy music just sounds like noise to me. Like it makes me angry that they're happy and I'm not, so I like riding into the skid because it feels more motivating. But it totally varies by person. If you want happy music then this is the way to go:

Curtis by Curtis Mayfield

And if you want to know that you're not in this alone and want something you can connect to, then I'll add this one:

Building Nothing Out Of Something by Modest Mouse

Eh... my longest sad streak I figured out was actually caused by the albums I was listening specifically these

Knife Man by Andrew Jackson Jihad

and

Summerteeth by Wilco

But going back to the happee stuff

Mastered By Guy At The Exchange by Max Tundra

I'd second some albums mentioned, but I'll say it really depends on what kind of music helps you in those moments. So, explaining would be better ๐Ÿ˜„
