This is available now via Apple Music, its not on any of the other streaming services or on torrent sites, only other way to listen to it is 38 dollar vinyl or 20 dollar mp3 (ugh). It is my favorite thing of the year though. Abrams has been doing this sorta thing that gets classified as jazz, but there's no horns. He mostly plays this African instrument the guimbri. Its a sorta bass string instrument it sounds absolutely wonderful. His earlier stuff was good but always had this sorta goofiness or I don't know how to describe it, but it stopped the music from really fully clicking with me. But this is super refined and just good. It starts with two longform pieces that are really subtle on the melodic side of things, mostly focused on the frame drum and guimbri and just lots of rhythm, but the really understated melodic element really starts to hit hard for me as the pieces go on. There's some shorter things to finish out the first half, and then the second half has sorta medium length songs where the guitars really start to make their presence known, and that sort of dynamic gets explored in increasing length. If you're looking for something really varied, this may not be the best thing to check out. But if you're down for something that sticks with some consistency thru the length of the tracks, then I very very highly recommend this one.
I just love how beautifully detailed and catchy the beats are! The raps are cool and direct. And I just love the production here. It sounds sooooo damn goooood! No filler, just banger after banger. Mind blown recently by this. Really friggin happy I revisited it.
Anyway, yeah can some I y'all give me a few recs of great albums that have a similar style/sound to this? _________________ -Ryan
