What are some albums that took you a few listens before they "clicked"? We've all got those albums that left you really irritated or unimpressed at first but grew into one of your GREATEST ALBUM(s) EVER!!!1!11!11111!!!1111

We're talking, "My brother is stupid. I hate my brother. Actually, he's alright, you know. Not bad, anyway. Meh. I guess I kind of love him. You know, it turns out my brother is pretty cool. I really like my brother. My brother is the best. Really. You'd love him."

It's a collaboration Daniel Johns did with DJ Paul Mac. The album is absolutely whack. Keep in mind, I first heard this as a young teenager who was listening to a lot of guitar-heavy albums (OK Computer, Grace, Ten, Daydream Nation, a couple I'd rather not name, etc.) It's whimsy and eccentric as can be, and to a young teenager at the time, it sounded downright flaccid. This is when we were hating on Coldplay for sounding like Radiohead without testicles. I guess we still do that... but it's also very dark and sincere, and it's that unique combination that got me. Take Horror With Eyeballs, for instance. It's nightmarish carnival music that sounds like it was written by someone in the nuthouse on a bad drug trip. The music video doesn't do anything to protest this perception:
The music video emulates the absurdity of the project very well, and my obsession with these quirky animations (see: Somewhere Down the Barrel and Young Man, Old Man) is what ultimately brought me into a place where I fell in love with this project.
To this day, this is one of the most bizarre albums in my collection, and there's nothing out there quite like it. The lyrics are downright brilliant. The instrumentation is full of subtleties that sneak up on you. And it's unique enough that nothing's ever displaced it for me. _________________ follow me on the bandcamp.
This album took a while with me, but once I "got it", it became one of my most favorites from this country music sister trio of the early 2000 decade. ๐๐๐

I wouldn't say I hated it and I wouldn't say it is my favorite ever album... but it did go from, hmmm... probably never going to listen to this again, to wow, this is totally worth listening to.

(This one is probably grew on me more than any album. I actively hated this album and black metal in general when it came out. I was a newb. Now it's in my top 15. I don't know another album off the top of my head where I hated it so much then came to love it so much.)
