I have this thing with Metallica albums where I really like them when I listen to them for the first few times but then just never get any compulsion to ever revisit them. _________________

I think what has disenfranchised myself from this album is it's the least interesting of the first few Metallica records and since I discovered it I've explored the metal genre (even thrash) to the point where it seems overblown and overstated. There is just so much better, more progressive, interesting, and dynamic records in metal out there. Also: Not saying this of the people in the thread because I know Ben (Rocky) doesn't fit this niche, but in my experience people who state it being one of the best metal records of all time are people who have barely grasped the surface of the genre.

All of this besides liking it less than all the other early Metallica records. For me, it's second to Kill Em All.

I don't think Lulu really counts as a Metallica creation, since it's basically an elaborate joke where Lou Reed tricks them into taking themselves really seriously while doing parodies Michael Gira vocals over the top. Without Lou Reed's orchestration or clearly leading voice in the conceptualizing and press processes, it would have been really terrible. Without Metallica's contribution, Lou could have just found another funny loud hyper-masculine band to back him.

My top Metallica album. Not a single skip-worthy track. Great riffs throughout.
