Awesome album. First heard it 8 years ago when I was searching YouTube for videos of people doing bass solos. Sure enough one lad was playing the bass along to Abba Zabba. I looked up the song, discovered its parent album, the debut from Captain Beefheart, and played it a lot.
Later that year I found a photo of John Lennon online where he was sitting in a room holding a vinyl copy of Safe As Milk and apparently listening to it. I assume he liked the album. Well he was a fan of the avant-garde.
I have only heard one other Capt Beefheart album, Trout Mask Replica, which is mad. But I prefer Safe As Milk. It's ace.
