My parents were born in the 60's and they used to play compilations of like The Beatles & 80's hits throughout my childhood which generated statements from them like "music will never be as good as it was in the 80's". Back then I didn't really have an opinion on that but now of course, I start rifling through the hundreds of retorts I can come up with in my head whenever I hear someone say something like that. Aside from my parents, I remember hearing things about Nevermind & OK Computer from just walking around, being a kid in the 2000s. And eventually, I got my Mum to buy me...

... because she wouldn't let me get Nevermind. I understand that its kind of the opposite direction you should start in but its influenced so much of my taste. I used to run home from school just so I could listen to "Airbag", "Paranoid Android", "Let Down", "Karma Police", "No Surprises" & "Lucky" but never "Fitter Happier". That song scared the shit out of me and has got to be one of the largest underlining reasons why I'm so existential now. Than after that I'd probably say it was:

it sounds so unbelievable to me to hear someone say the first album they heard was ok computer. this is because you're so young and I was born in the year Dark Side of the Moon first came out!!!

First album I listened to back to back must have been Elton's Goobye Yellow Brick Road. My parents where digging jazz an stuff like Count Basie but they had 3 pop records Wien I was very young: Abbey Road, White album and Yellow brick road.

Shortly followed by Queen's Greatest Hits, ABBA's Gold and Eric Clapton's Unplugged. As far as not a soundtrack, compilation or live album, I'm guessing there's a (very) strong possibility it was The Eminem Show, which I heard when I was 8 or 9 and it freaked me the fuck out. It's what the kids as school had on their walkmans (walkmen?) and whatnot. American Idiot would've also been one of the first. I don't think I heard my first Beatles album (in full) until I was around eleven or so.
