2018 Albums

Hayden · 2018-01-01T13:23:54-05:00

It's that time of year again folks — a new one (2018 if you're still keeping score). Personally, I loved the music output of 2017. Solid, consistent, innovative, plus the duds have already been erased from my mind and I can't wait for Arcade Fire's follow-up to Reflektor. Here's to 2018 :) This thread will be a general discussion on new and upcoming releases this year, and perhaps any goals/wishes you wish to see in the world of music. Take some time to share singles, EPs, albums, mixtapes, whatever you wish. I'll start off my sharing some of my anticipated releases: Earl Sweatshirt Vampire Weekend My Bloody Valentine Sky Ferreira Tune-Yards Father John Misty Chromatics (hopefully) Blood Orange Danny Brown No Age Iceage SOPHIE David Byrne Natalie Prass Lucy Dacus Grouper U.S. Girls Speedy Ortiz Andrew WK Spiritualized Rhye & a hopefully a slew of artists I know nothing about And it looks like 2018 already has a familiar face :) Jeff Rosenstock has released the follow-up to his excellent 2016 album SORRY. Looking forward to giving it a spin later. POST- by Jeff Rosenstock Cheers everyone, here's to a new year.

TA13OO by Denzel Curry

Vengeance is fantastic, I really love the aesthetic in the music video for Clout Cobain too.

The Land of Enchantment

Some lesser known stuff I've been into from the past month...

The Plow by Hieronymus Bogs

Mystical folk with electronics from a strange shaman

O.Y. In Hi-Fi by Optiganally Yours

The odd optigan-centered sideproject of Rob Crow (Pinback) returns after long long hiatus.

Zion by Wilder Maker

Americana-rock for people bored of Americana-rock

Across The Meridian by Pram

The sound of toys in the distance through a layer of fog

Jellies by 77:78

Closest thing I've heard to Beta Band in forever. Beautifully composed psych pop.

Skygirl - Cruel Practice

Too short to add to the site, but it's phenomenal. Looking forward to more material eventually.

Sky Ferreira put out a new song... it's just a cover but fuhking hell Sky this better not be the start of another three-year-long tease.

Anyways what's a good album in each of the hip-hop, house, hard rock, twinky-guy-or-girl-with-a-guitar and dreamy ambient pop genres?

I dunno if it's too melancholy to be pop but Matchess - Sacracorpa is really dreamy

Those seven stand head and shoulders above everything else I've heard this year.

The goods:

Nostrum Grocers by Nostrum Grocers

Imagine if Milo and Elucid made an album together, it sounds like that, and it's good. That's also what it is.

Lurzoru Hotzetik by Arrotzak

For all you punk people out there. Guitar work throughout is really solid, and all in all it's great fun. Albeit from Spain, keep in mind the record's in Basque. Not terribly long either, just the length you'd want the record to be.

Tranquille Émile by Emilie Nicolas

Shout out to Revolver for posting this rec (somewhere?). Super solid avant-pop, not skimping out on either side of the blend.

Clear Tamei by Iglooghost

Iglooghost released something? When was that? Yes. Yes he did. He dropped two really good EP's last week, but I'd give the edge to Clear Tamei. Mindblowing production.

And Mitski's Be The Cowboy is phenomenal, don't miss it.
