I finally finished this album.
And to me it's good. And that's it really. Just good. . . .
A part of me wants to love the hell out of this record like everyone else. But though this album is a quality project, the album instrumentally doesn't move me that much. Though I do thank the person who gave me this. So grade wise it's a 75 but realistically it's in the middle of a 70 and 75.
Now my choice would have been the equivalent of a ball being spiked into a listeners head. But, I don't want to do that yet. Unless someone is interested.
Realistically, my choice would be this.
Blackstar by David Bowie. Probably my favorite album of 2016.

I haven't listened to much jazz because what I have I don't love....but then again most I don't dislike either....it just doesn't provoke a strong reaction either way. This was the same. It was very good though and I did enjoy it. What I liked was that as well as it being good background music there was enough going on for an interesting active listen as well.
For Luigii: I am giving you the honour of one of my favourite albums of all time.
Wow! This album is only available on YouTube, and it is a real hidden treasure. Bebey has been on my to-do list for a couple years, but not this album, which I was just the eleventh(!) person to rate on RYM. It is truly stellar and fascinating vocally and instrumentally. Thank you! 4/5.
I know that I'd heard something from this group before, but I can't remember what. It's OK, but it's lacking something. I imagine most people's feelings about the album hinge on the vocal performance, which is so unaffected most of the time that it almost seem like a parody. They remind me of one of my favorite noise rock bands, Pissed Jeans; similar sense of humor and raucousness. Maybe will evolve more upon more listens.
Baystate, listen to this album and tell me what you think.
A great Sonic Youth album that I hadn't heard before, although I knew half the songs from here and there over the years. It fits perfectly as the album before Daydream Nation as it still has that experimental noise from earlier albums but is starting to get that more accessible song structure that they would display from Daydream Nation onwards.
This was dope, and I probably wouldn't have listened to it anytime soon without your rec, so thank you! Good production, flow, and lyrics. The only track that I really wasn't feeling was when he just recites Lewis Carroll in a weird voice. 4/5.
You know, it's funny, if there's one genre I really have trouble with sometimes, it's punk music. I'm not sure why, I like punk in general, but it's never been one of my favorite genres. But this makes me think maybe I just haven't been listening to the right punk music, because I really liked this album. Great recommendation! I can see me coming back to this one if I ever need to let out some energy haha.
I probably haven't listened to this album in over 30 years. I just used to thrash Substance and not worry about their albums too much. At the time I thought of them as a singles band but now I really appreciated this more than I think I would have back then. It holds up really well with time and listening now I am sure it's influenced many artists. My favourites are 5-8-6 with it's ahead of it's time glitchy intro and Blue Monday similarities, and the understated but excellent Leave Me Alone.
For Rocka (sorry, I always seem to get you): Something a bit diffferent to what I normally listen to but I found this strangely appealing and I kept going back to it for a while.
At first when I was listening to this back a couple days ago, I had a hunch this was a meh project that only meant importance back in the early 90's due to the musical landscape of it's time. However though the importance does hold up, it is no way a meh project. After giving a bit of space and letting the album play out, it was an excellent journey. The variety in genres and sound palette just sell the show. Hell with this album under my belt, I'm finally gonna tackle the debut The Orb album back in 1991 hopefully this week. So yeah Pash, Excellent stuff.
Grade:90
Now my pick
Lift Yr. Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven by Godspeed You! Black Emperor from 2000. Love this album. Need to hear this again.
