Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 13% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.3/100, a mean average of 75.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.0.

From ExTeaSea 11/12/2019 15:52 in Most unfamiliar with 87, 88 and 89. Rare recommendations?
Here are my favorites in each year that you haven't rated or charted: '87 This one isn't rare, but it's essential listening even if you've heard their albums. '88 This one is rare. '89 This one is somewhere between rare and not rare. New Order is great. Currently listening to Technique. I'll check…

While the first three are excellent exercises in drone music, the last is in excercise in banging on things while being in a really big cave. While it may not seem far removed from the first three in theory, it is clearly done becuase "hey that would be kinda cool," not "this would be interesting and artistic". Still, dont let it detract from the amazingness of the first three tracks
