I do think this record was great. But I think the statement of 90's alternative hit me as to why I don't think it was amazing. Maybe getting more 90's alternative bands underneath my belt, I would get it. And it's not like I don't get it. I do get some influences of Beck which also means I get some Eels as well but I'm only getting a partial picture. Maybe it will grow even higher but as of now it is a 85.
There's Oasis type brit pop (Godless), psych rock (Mohammed), shoegaze (Nietzsche), alt-country (Country Leaver), 80's era Iggy Pop that even has the lyrics 'blah blah blah' - one of his album titles (Solid), noise rock (Horse Pills), brit pop (Get Off), mellow dreamy pop (Sleep), neo-psychedelia (Cool Scene),Weezer meets Blur - Song 2 anyone? (Bohemian Like You) etc...as well as lots of other minor influences here and there - Pavement type lo-fi, garage rock, post-punk revival, gospel, et al. You are right it's not an amazing album (I only give it an 8 myself) but I find it quite an impressive and interesting, eclectic album that's worth listening to for what it does.

See. This is a guy that knows his stuff. But I do agree that though a great album, not the best.

Holy shit!
This is wonderful. Like grade wise it is 95 but could be a 100 with a couple listens.
But this was colorful. This was wacky. And most importantly was just fun. Like this is the stuff that makes me happy that when I get to other year lists when you hit to a record that speaks to you and cherish. Because I could see that happening with this one.

Unless I get snubbed, Bay get Bottomless Pit. Now I don't expect this to get a really high rating. Maybe a 3.5 but wouldn't be surprised if this was a 3 or lower. But it is one of there shortest records and actually refines from a lot of there albums. And was better than YOTS.

Wow... can someone clue me in here. This album makes MF Doom's Food sound like the greatest record ever made (and that's not a slight at MF Doom). I really have a hard time getting how people I respect really can dig this. It musically is barely ok - if it weren't for the guitar work, this is incredibly terrible musically. It has a suicide/depression thing going on that I guess you can relate to if you are going for an emotional thing. But even as someone who has dealt with suicide, etc. I didn't find this cathartic at all or at least relatable, like any good work does. I didn't find any of the lyrics appealing. The bassist is easily the least imaginative I've ever heard. Their efforts at dissonance never really lands. I just really have nothing positive to say about them, yet people love them. Is this something you had to get into in your teens to dig? Is it a British thing (I still have difficulties with the love for Oasis). I just don't get it. For now I'll give it a 60/100.

Wow! This was amazing. The best soul album I've heard so far. Such smooth vocals, and combined with the music so theatrical and dramatic, I loved it. Walk On By was incredible. 1969 just keeps coming through with great albums. This is probably the best album I've got from this game so far.
From Rocka's best albums of the 60s (4 picks remaining)
The Dock Of The Bay - Otis Redding
Death Chants, Breakdowns & Military Waltzes - John Fahey
At San Quentin - Johnny Cash
For The Sake Of The Song - Townes Van Zandt
Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere - Neil Young
Take Ten - Paul Desmond
Night Lights - Gerry Mulligan
The Gilded Palace Of Sin - The Flying Burrito Brothers
Uncle Meat - The Mothers Of Invention
Miles Smiles - Miles Davis

Really Seth? This is the worst album from Green Day? Because I actually enjoy this album. Like a lot. I mean, I love the variety of this album. I mean I was surprised that there was a sax solo. I would never expect that. Maybe this will change since I never listen to there big albums like Dookie or American Idiot but this was enjoyable. My only complaint that I could think of would be that Billie's vocals could feel a bit uninspired. And I do say a bit because for the most part, I feel the energy or the passion overall.
Grade:90

This is probably my second favorite Death Grips release so far. The production is more consistently enjoyable than usual and fits the vocals. While the enjoyability of the rapping is inconsistent, MC Ride sounds good on some songs. I barely liked it more than disliked it. 3/5.

They're American. And I got into this album at 22. What slowcore do you like, if any?
Doh! I swear I was looking at a thing that said they were from the UK.
The closest thing that I truely like is Cowboy Junkies, but on RYM it's a secondary genre.
Maybe you are right and I just don't like slowcore, but historically the genre hasn't mattered and it's the execution of the art that did.
What is it you love about it? (assuming you do)
