I also agree that this album is underrated. They obviously understood that they needed to develop a new sound with more range to stay relevant, and they ultimately succeeded wildly. Nimrod planted the seed of experimentation, but this was when the seed sprouted and the sonic shift truly occurred, kicking off their second wave of mega success that would commercially pay off with American Idiot. Hearing them really stripped down for the first time allowed Billy Joe's songwriting to shine even more than it already had to this point. (Edited)
This is by far their most underrated album. Lots of different kinds of songs you wouldn't hear on any of their others, which can't be said for most of their catalogue (they've remained pretty consistent).

Under-rated Green Day album. Doesn't stand up to the classic of Dookie or the grandeur of American Idiot but in my opinion it's one of their most different and better albums. (Edited)

An album without any true standout songs (except Minority), which I think makes people lose sight of it amongst Green Day albums with bigger hits; however, as an album start to finish it works very well and has a cohesive sound and lyrical themes focused on being an outsider/deadbeat.
I can understand commenters criticizing this album for being formulaic, however I feel that's a criticism that could be leveled at every Green Day album up til American Idiot. Personally, I really like Green Day's sound and Billie Joe's voice/lyrics - if you like other 90s Green Day albums, I think you will like this one as well. (Edited)
Their typical sound is there, but they have added some new elements without losing the balance. Punk, yet mature. It stands up there with their best albums. Overall, 80/100. (Edited)
