Reading 'Just Kids' few years ago it was like diving deep into her creative process, seeing how intense and passionate she is about what she does and also how crazy effervescent NY music/art scene was in the late 60's and early 70's so that she could come up with an album like Horses, it's a really cool reading, which renewed my love for Patti.

She may not be perfect but her work has so much energy and she is such an iconic figure who lits me up with such naked joy. Horses has been high on my chart since day one and Birdland is surely one of my favorite songs ever.

This is an awesome album. I read an interview with Morrissey that said one night in the 70's him and a mate got chased by a gang of skinheads. Then they got home, Morrissey put Horses on the turntable and "they just cried and cried".

I love it. It doesn't make me cry exactly but it is an album which moves me. It was so rebellious and original in its day I imagine. And her lyrics are pure poetry.

Viva Patti Smith!

Michael Stipe from R.E.M. lauds this album too.

I didn't get into it as much as I thought I would have.

I love her voice on this song though:

I see this album as one of the planks on the bridge from musics past tot musics future. A truly innovative, impressive, influential record. Beautiful, raw, and powerful all in one a magnificent work of art.
